How do you label a triad if it starts on a note not in it's scale(with roman numerals)?
if you're in minor, you'd want to label this chord as #vii diminished, if indeed the root is on d# (since furthermore, this is more likely to be a seventh chord of some kind rather than a triad). This is because the key signature for e minor gives d-natural, d# is a raised tone which is used to alter the natural minor scale in order to create a leading tone to the tonic. Now, if you encountered this sonority in E major, you would just label it as vii diminished. Whats more, a diminished triad with a root on the leading tone (d# in the key of e or E) is functionally equivalent and an extension of the dominant harmony anyway.
