I'm trying to put a new serpentine belt on a car and it's too loose.?

It's a 2004 Ford Taurus with the 3.0 12 Valve Vulcan engine. I'm also trying to put a new alternator on it, and I've tried multiple belt configuration, but I always end up with the same amount of slack.
