I'm looking for some new books that might be a little along the lines of these...?

Try the Seven Kingdoms trilogy by Kristin Cashore. They're pretty neat books. The first is Graceling, followed by Fire (a companion/prequel), and the third, Bitterblue, which I don't think has come out yet.
