How come my mystery snails dont grow very large?

Okay, so I got about 5 purple mystery snail babies from my father in law, and they multiplied into, lets say, a gazillion. anyway, I have had mystery snails for almost a year now, and have never had one live to be larger than about, I would say maybe half an inch... What might I do to stimulate their growth and make them grow to larger sizes?
